Case Study
Embedding ASD into CIOG
Allectum provided a sophisticated level of coordination and negotiation, acting as the Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) liaison to the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD).
Developing a cadre of likeminded individuals, Allectum developed a range of organisational policies, instructions and data standards in a resource-restricted environment that provided the capability for ASD to meet CIOG goals.
During the engagement, this cadre liaised with personnel at all levels, including those responsible for management and strategy, and created the change momentum required across the organisation at all levels to help facilitate broad acceptance of the need for change activity.
This work was acknowledged as the first of its kind amongst the Five Eyes community and had a significant impact on the Australian Defence Force community.
Case Study
ADF Doctrine Modernisation Rapid Assessment
Allectum commenced the ADF Doctrine Modernisation Rapid Assessment with a scoping workshop and familiarisation of the problem set. What emerged from this review was that the organisation was hampered by utilising existing off-the-shelf software, resulting in excessive manual information management practices. Allectum therefore focussed on an information governance approach combined with information systems coordination methodologies.
This engagement included extensive research of current market trends and the monitoring of changes in technologies. In addition, the Allectum team engaged with multiple commercial vendors and analysed their offerings in contrast to the needs of the client. This approach enabled the project team to determine technological trends in knowledge management and advise a roadmap primarily from a sustainment perspective.
The final capability provided by Allectum was in the form of a report containing guidance on the acquisition, development, and implementation of information systems and services.
As part of its engagement through the Defence Innovation Hub, Allectum also created and released a ‘Consolidated Industry Advice’ report.

Military Platform Integration Programme
Working in the Military Platform Integration Programme, Allectum’s primary role was to conduct Systems Integration Services. Allectum achieved this through requirements analysis, development, validation, and technical architecture in addition to functional specifications development.
With a programme requirement focus, the team worked with individual projects on aligning their system integration needs with an overarching programme requirement.
This work required a methodical investigation to document the existing information flows and organisational policies. Once the team understood the flows, they were then modelled using diagrams to understand the flows and to develop scenarios.
After the information flows were documented, the requirements could then be elicited.
The team used a staged approach with multiple design reviews to mature the solution set. As a result, Allectum identified that a range of risk reduction activities could be conducted to better understand the problem set, governance and policy constraints required to enable the platforms to function.
